Sheriff Brackett began his career at the age of 19, serving as a Corrections Officer with the Kennebec County Jail.  In 1986, he was promoted to Patrol Deputy with the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office.  In October 1988, he transferred to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office as a Patrol Deputy.  Sheriff Brackett served as a K9 officer for seven years with his dog "Cliff" during which time he was promoted to shift supervisor. In 1998 he accepted the position of Chief of Police for the town of Damariscotta.  He held this position until he was elected as the 32nd Sheriff of Lincoln County in November 2002.
